About Sheppy's Cider
The Sheppy family have been making cider for over 200 years and the awards they have won exceed this number, so the accolade of ‘craftsmen cidermakers’ is well earned. Recent awards include gold in CAMRA’s National Cider & Perry Awards 2014 for their Medium Draft and silver in The International Cider Awards 2015 for their Somerset Draught. Sheppy's Cider's Requirements
Sheppy’s Cider ordered an additional 300,000 litres of top quality Speidel stainless steel tanks from Vigo to meet their requirements for increased capacity.
David Sheppy said, "We had already bought a number of Speidel tanks from Vigo and they were the obvious choice for our continued expansion. They offer high quality tanks at a fair price and we were confident that Vigo would deliver when we needed them."
The Sheppy's Cider Brand
‘Quality’ is the ethos behind Sheppy’s Cider, which is owned and run by David and Louisa Sheppy. Of the 2,000,000+ litres of cider currently produced, 50% of the apples used are grown in orchards on David and Louisa’s farm, and the remainder are carefully selected from local farmers that they know. 30 different apple varieties are carefully selected to create the 15 different ciders which they craft, ranging from draft to sparkling, single varietals to blends, and a Soil Association certified organic cider. Fermentation is achieved through the natural yeasts in the skins of the apples, as opposed to added yeasts and no artificial sweeteners are used. Sheppy’s award winning cider is supplied in bottles, polyboxes and kegs.
Awards include gold in CAMRA’s National Cider & Perry Awards 2014 for their Medium Draft, being one of the top 50 winners of Great Taste 2014 – described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world - for their Oak Matured Vintage Cider, (the top 50 are selected from 10,000 products), and silver in The International Cider Awards 2015 for their Somerset Draught .
Sheppy’s are highly committed to the essential role that ecology plays in their 330 acre mixed farm. They actively encourage the wildlife habitat and reuse as many natural by-products as possible (e.g., pomace, apple wood, and biodegradable packaging) on the farm to minimise waste. They have recently installed a new wetland ecosystem treatment system to purify waste water from the production process.
