Vigo offers filter housings (available separately) and cartridges for a range of applications, from coarse filtration of cloudy juices, to fine ‘sterile’ filtration of wines, beers and ciders. Cartridge filtration can also be used for dechlorination of water. Cartridges are held in a housing (available separately) with inlet and outlet connections, and product can only leave the housing after passing through the cartridge.

Cartridges are available in a wide range of materials for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Stainless steel wire mesh cartridges are used to filter liquids with occasional large particles, such as stray insects. We recommend that these cartridges are used between juice holding tanks and bottling machines.
  • Spun Polypropylene (depth filter cartridges) are used for relatively coarse filtration from 5 micron down to 0.5 micron. Usually used as a prefilter prior to using a more expensive membrane filter.
  • Polyethersulphone pleated membrane cartridges are used for final filtration of products to remove yeast cells prior to bottling, typically down to 0.45 micron.
  • Granular activated carbon cartridges are used for dechlorination of water.
