Case Study Overview

The Friday Beer Co in Malvern offer a range of premium bottle conditioned ales. Co-Director Gerald's production aims were ...

  • An affordable brewing system to rapidly produce different types of beer

  • To retain the distinctive characteristics of their beer
  • Hand-operated filler and label applicator

We supplied a Speidel 200 litre Braumeister brewing system, Speidel 240 litre fermentation tanks, a 4 nozzle syphon filler and a VL/4 hand operated label applicator.

The Friday Beer Co is the brain-child of three Malvern scientists. After a year of training and building the company, including developing the four excellent beer recipes, they were ready to sell. The company offers a range of premium bottle conditioned ales.

The company needed an affordable brewing system that would rapidly produce enough beer of different types that they could efficiently bottle and take to market. This would give them the flexibility to offer a wide range of recipes and change recipes to suit the seasons.

Vigo supplied both the 20 litre and 200 litre Brewmaster brewing systems, which are compact, self contained brew systems with fully automatic, programmable temperature and time functions and integral sparging pump. Speidel 240 litre fermentation tanks, a 4 nozzle syphon filler and a VL/4 hand operated label applicator were also supplied.

Feedback

'We have covered the whole spectrum of tastes for ales with smooth creamy stout, a golden light ale, classic bitter and mild session ale. All of our beers have a distinctive taste. The stout is sweet and easy to drink; the bitter is made with a dash of rye which really creates a unique flavour. The golden ale has a delicate fruity flavour and is a beautiful drink whilst the mild ale is warm and smooth. We are proud of our links to the town of Malvern where we are based and all our beers use a range of hops and grain all purchased and in some cases grown locally.'

Initially we purchased the 20 litre Speidel Brewmaster system and used this for experimenting and have now scaled up to the 200 litre system. The brewery is starting to sell at farmers markets and other local outlets and the beers taste great. We intend to grow and bring these great ales to other parts of the country.

Vigo was able to offer us these unique and versatile brewing systems giving us an affordable way into the brewing business. Fermentation vessels, bottling equipment and labelling machines all came from Vigo and their help and advice has been key to building our new company.'
