Features
Conventional filtration involves liquid passing through a filter surface in a perpendicular way. With crossflow filtration, where a semi-permeable membrane is used, liquid passes both through and across the membrane, keeping the surface clean of residues.
The benefits of using cross-flow filtration can include:
- Clarifying substances & filtering aids are not required - save on production, storage, labour and disposal costs
- Charging/discharging filter with filter medium not required - save on labour and costs
- Less filtration stages - single filtration
- Save on labour and operator mistakes -
- Elimination of processing time for clarification and sedimentation - less tanks 'locked-up'
- Continuous running - filtration cycles can last 20 hours and more
- Consistent flow rate - flow rate established at beginning of cycle and averagely kept constant
- Integral product recovery - lowest unfiltered volumes (0.2% of total volume)
- Energy saving - 0.09kW/100 litres of filtered product

Bared
Bared has specialised in membrane technologies for the drink industry for over 30 years, and we are proud to be their UK agents.
Here are some of the reasons why we choose Bared:
- They were one of the first companies to specialise in membrane technology applications and crossflow filtration separation process using porous membranes
- They are highly skilled cross-flow filtration specialists
- Their units achieve clear ('brilliant') wines/ciders of <1 NTU
- Their units are robust and reliable and include automatic backwash (mechanical cleaning, as opposed to chemical cleaning) system for optimised membrane performance and membrane longevity
- They design & manufacture in house
- They export to 27 countries
The range
The Bared range includes cross flow filters in a range of different capacities - from 700 to 10,400 litres per hour.
